Sometimes the simplest ideas fail to make much headway. The
United Bottle concept, developed by
Instant Architects, builds on the idea of the
Heineken WOBO, or 'World Bottle'; a glass container that, once its contents were finished, could be used as a form of building brick, with an interlocking design that allowed it to form structural walls.
Victor Papanek praised the WOBO back in the 70s, as did the great
Martin Pawley in his book '
Garbage Housing' (the contents of
which are explored at
Let's Remake in this pdf, '
