What's new?

A repository for very occasional information about this website and the
endlessly ongoing work to create the next print edition of things magazine,
due perhaps in Spring 2008 (a mere three four years after the last one).
Please note our new mailing address.

It's no small irony that the least dynamic and most infrequently touched page on this website should be the 'what's new?' section. Last updated just under a year ago, yet we are still unable to offer a firm release date for issue 19/20. However, the issue is at the proofing stage, and contains short stories, reviews, thoughts and musings.

Once again, time has not been kind to the 'what's new?' page. In fact, it is starting to feel like a bit of a joke. things 19/20 (yes, another double issue) is now being laid out and the final bits of text edited and illustrations sourced. We have found a wonderful designer to work with, but their time is just as precious as ours, so progress will be stately. But hopefully it will all be worth it.

Quite impressive to have no updates here for nearly a whole year - apologies. A new issue is being designed, but check back on the website for more information. We'll try and keep the weblog daily.

And the days and the weeks rush by. It's now early October, and we're not far off having an entire issue's worth of material ready to edit. If you've submitted something and haven't heard back, please be patient. At the moment, we look set to have articles on purses, aquariums, virtual environments and war paintings, as well as poetry and new short fiction.

You may have noticed a rather confused approach to type size, font, colour, etc., over the past few weeks. Apologies.

Another new project has been posted: illustrations from The Good Housewife's Encyclopedia

thingsmagazine.net has been fairly erratic over the past six months, and we can't pretend that the next six will be any easier. But bear with us. We recently started talking about things 19, which looks set to be a double issue along the lines of issue 17/18.

Most excitingly, we've moved to a new hosting company, NetHosted, so have more space and hopefully more speed with which to serve you. As a result, you can now see new wing mirrors, quirky book extracts, photo galleries, and more. We even have space to host projects like John Glassie's bicycles locked to poles. Who knows, we might even get some new writing up soon as well.

There have been a few minor design tweaks. Don't forget that you can still buy back issues via our archive pages.

Time to take a few weeks off and re-group.

16 November 2004
We've finally got around to posting a piece from the print edition of things 17-18. Shooting images, by Limited Language, looks at the photographic representation of the second Gulf War.

01 November 2004
As of November 2004, things 19 is still quite a few months away - we're looking at a publication date of around mid 2005. If you would like us to alert you when the issue is nearly ready, please send an email.

We promise not to sell your email address or deluge you with unnecessary spam.

Thank you.
